Range Rover Evoque
It’s Range Rover's real-world development of their original LRX concept car. The impressive news is that the new model is able to return surprisingly good economy, with the base 148bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel being capable of 58mpg whilst emitting less than 130g/km of CO2. Helped in part by stop-start and electric power steering, this figure is for the front-wheel-drive variant, however Evoque buyers will be able to choose between this and a 4WD version.Other engines in the range include a more powerful 2.2-litre turbodiesel with an output of 187bhp, and a 237bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit with twin variable valve timing, capable of the 0-60 sprint in 7.1sec. No details are given as to the performance of the diesel versions or indeed economy for the petrol version, however the initial figures are very positive.
As far as specification is concerned, Range Rover are to offer three trim levels known as 'Design Themes', with differing exterior and interior finishes. The base 'Pure' theme offers neutral colours and 19in wheels along with brushed metal trim and soft-touch plastics inside. 'Prestige' offers up a bespoke exterior with unique 19in wheels and dubious sounding 'sparkling metallic details', along with an interior almost completely swathed in leather. Finally, 'Dynamic' trim appears to offer up the full Premier League package, with reworked bumpers and bodykit as well as brightly coloured sports seats inside.
Expect plenty of luxurious gadgets and features, both optional and as standard, from a full-length glass roof to premium 17-speaker stereo systems.
Prices are due to start from £30,000 for the Merseyside-built Evoque, with sales beginning summer 2011
